Terms of Service
The agreement between VETAID and the service members, veterans, and family members who use the platform.
Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of VETAID, including the websites at joinvetaid.com and www.joinvetaid.com, and any related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by VETAID LLC. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
What VETAID is, and what it is not
- VETAID provides AI-generated, source-cited information about military and veteran benefits, claims processes, transition resources, and where to find accredited help.
- VETAID is not a law firm, a Veterans Service Organization, a healthcare provider, or a financial advisor.
- VETAID does not file VA claims for you. Filing happens at VA.gov or through an accredited representative.
- Information returned by VETAID is for general guidance only. Always confirm eligibility, deadlines, and dollar amounts with VA.gov, your VSO, or another authoritative source before acting.
Eligibility and family-member use
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Service members in the Delayed Entry Program who are 17 may use VETAID with the understanding that some content addresses adult-oriented benefits topics.
If you use VETAID on behalf of a service member or veteran (as a spouse, dependent, caregiver, or other representative), you represent and warrant that (a) you are authorized by them to access and manage their account information, (b) you will treat their information consistent with these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and (c) you will discontinue use if your authorization is withdrawn.
Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.
- Provide accurate information when creating your account or completing your profile. Personalization works better when the information is real.
- One person per account. Do not share your credentials. If you believe your account has been compromised, email support@joinvetaid.com immediately.
- Provide only your own information. VETAID does not accept document or DD214 uploads (an optional profile photo is the only file you can add); enter only service details that pertain to you, or to the service member you are authorized to represent.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harass, defraud, or harm any person, including other users.
- Attempt to bypass security controls, rate limits, content filters, or the safety guardrails that route crisis queries to the Veterans Crisis Line.
- Probe, scan, or otherwise test the vulnerability of the Service without prior written permission. Responsible disclosure to support@joinvetaid.com is welcome.
- Scrape the Service or use it to train competing AI models without prior written permission.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, model weights, system prompts, or guardrail implementations of the Service.
- Impersonate another person, including any service member, veteran, family member, government employee, or VETAID staff.
- Post or transmit content in the community or in direct messages that violates the content standards in the Community and user content section below.
- Collect, scrape, or republish other members' posts, profiles, or contact information, or use them for any purpose other than ordinary participation in the community.
Community and user content
VETAID includes a community: a networking feed where you can create posts, comments, replies, and boosts; a connections directory; and private one-to-one direct messages. Posting requires a display name. These features are governed by this section in addition to the Acceptable use rules above.
You are responsible for what you post and send. You, not VETAID, are solely responsible for the content you create in the community and the messages you send. You represent that you have the right to post it and that it does not violate these Terms or the law.
Public community content. Posts, comments, replies, and boosts are public. They are visible to other users and may appear in search and ranking, and they are stored in plain text so the community is searchable. Do not post anything in the community that you would not want to be public, and follow the operational-security guidance in our Privacy Policy. Because community posts are public and searchable, they are not covered by the auto-delete window or the "clear my activity" control that apply to your private searches and chats; see the retention section of our Privacy Policy.
Direct messages. Direct messages between members are private. Their contents are encrypted at rest, and VETAID does not publish them. Like community posts, messages are screened by automated moderation before they are sent.
License you grant for community content. The content you post or send remains yours. By posting public community content, you grant VETAID LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content within the Service so we can operate the community, including showing it to other users and returning it in search. For direct messages, you grant only the limited license needed to transmit, store, and deliver the message to its recipient. These licenses end when the content is removed, except for content that has already been shared with or replied to by others, and for copies retained in backups or required by law.
Content standards. When you post or message, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, or target any person, or incite others to do so.
- Post unlawful content, or content that infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights.
- Impersonate any person, including any service member, veteran, family member, government employee, or VETAID staff, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Post another person's private information (doxxing), including a home address, phone number, or other identifying details shared without consent.
- Post deployment dates, locations, unit movements, force composition, Controlled Unclassified Information, or anything else that would violate operational security (OPSEC).
- Run scams, post paid job offers or fee-for-benefits solicitations, advertise, spam, or solicit money or credentials from other members.
- Post hateful content, graphic violence, sexual content, or content that exploits or endangers minors.
- Evade rate limits, moderation, reporting, or a suspension, or use automated means to post or message at scale.
Moderation. Every post, comment, reply, and direct message is checked by automated moderation before it is stored or sent. We are not obligated to monitor community content, but we may, at our discretion, moderate, remove, restrict, hide, or replace content with a "[deleted]" placeholder, and we may limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or put other users at risk. Content reported by several distinct users may be hidden automatically pending review. If you have a question about a moderation decision, email support@joinvetaid.com.
Reporting. If you see content that violates these standards, use the in-product report control or email support@joinvetaid.com. Do not retaliate against people who report content.
Deleting your content. You can delete content you own. A post or comment with no replies is removed entirely; a post or comment that already has replies is replaced with a "[deleted]" placeholder so the surrounding conversation stays readable. Closing your account follows the same rule for your community content, as described in the retention section of our Privacy Policy.
Community and connection features may be turned off or limited at any time, including for maintenance or safety.
Content and intellectual property
- The VETAID name, logo, design system, software, and curated content are owned by VETAID LLC and protected by copyright and trademark law.
- The questions you submit and the personal content in your account remain yours. By submitting them, you grant VETAID a limited license to process them for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.
- Content you post in the community or send as a direct message is covered by the Community and user content section, including the license you grant VETAID to host and display public community content.
- Citations and excerpts from third-party sources (VA.gov, DoD sites, etc.) belong to those sources and are surfaced under fair-use principles for informational purposes.
DMCA designated agent
If you believe content surfaced through VETAID infringes your copyright, send a notice that includes (1) a physical or electronic signature, (2) identification of the copyrighted work, (3) identification of the material you claim is infringing and where it appears on the Service, (4) your contact information, (5) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized, and (6) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf.
Send notices to our designated agent at support@joinvetaid.com, with a hard copy to the mailing address in the Contact section.
Third-party links and subprocessors
VETAID frequently links to government and veteran-organization websites. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or practices.
VETAID relies on third-party subprocessors (including OpenAI, Perplexity, Google for OAuth, Railway, and Stripe) to operate the Service. The full list, including the data flow per provider, is in the Subprocessors section of the Privacy Policy.
AI hallucination and reliance
VETAID generates responses using large-language-model AI. Outputs may contain "hallucinations," meaning confident but inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date information. You agree not to rely on VETAID output as a sole source of truth for medical, legal, financial, or benefits decisions without independently verifying it through authoritative sources (VA.gov, an accredited Veterans Service Organization, a licensed clinician, or a licensed attorney). AI-generated summaries and outputs anywhere in the Service, including any AI assistance in the community, should be verified against the official source before you rely on them.
EU AI Act notice (Article 50). You are interacting with an AI system. Responses are generated, sourced, and synthesized by AI on each request.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that every answer is complete, correct, or current at the moment you read it. AI systems can make mistakes; treat VETAID as a starting point, not a final authority.
Nothing on VETAID is legal, medical, or financial advice. For decisions that affect your benefits, your healthcare, or your finances, consult a qualified professional.
Crisis safety
VETAID includes a safety pre-emption that detects crisis-related queries and returns the Veterans Crisis Line (988, press 1) and other immediate resources before any AI generation. This is a safety net, not a substitute for emergency care. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 and press 1.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, VETAID LLC and its founders, employees, and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits or revenues, arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service is limited to one hundred US dollars (US $100).
Dispute resolution and arbitration
Please read carefully. This section affects your legal rights.
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, seated in Wilmington, Delaware. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class-action and class-arbitration waiver. You and VETAID LLC agree that disputes will be brought only in an individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative action.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@joinvetaid.com within 30 days of creating your account, with the subject line "Arbitration opt-out" and your account email in the body. Opt-out has no effect on your continued use of the Service.
Small-claims court is available as an alternative for qualifying disputes.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold VETAID LLC harmless from any claim, loss, or expense arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
Billing, credits, and subscriptions
VETAID offers a free plan and paid plans (currently Plus and Pro) plus one-time credit packs. The terms in this section apply whenever you start a paid plan, switch plans, or buy a credit pack.
- Payment processor. Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered directly into Stripe and never reach VETAID's servers. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy govern that processing. The data VETAID stores about your billing is described in the Payment information section of our Privacy Policy.
- Monthly plans and credits. Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance (Free 50, Plus 200, Pro 400, as published on the Upgrade page). One search or one question to VETAI uses one credit. Monthly credits reset on the first of each calendar month (UTC) and do not roll over; unused monthly credits are forfeited at month end.
- Automatic renewal. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically. When you start a paid plan you authorize VETAID, through Stripe, to charge your payment method the then-current plan price at the start of each monthly billing cycle, and on the same schedule each month after that, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal; see Cancellation below.
- Credit packs. Credit packs are one-time purchases that stack on top of your monthly allowance and are spent only after your monthly credits are exhausted. Pack credits expire twelve (12) months from the date of purchase. Packs are non-refundable once purchased.
- Upgrades. If you switch to a higher-tier plan during a billing cycle, the upgrade takes effect immediately and Stripe charges a prorated amount for the remainder of the current cycle. Your new monthly allowance is available right away.
- Downgrades. If you switch to a lower-tier plan, the change takes effect on your next billing date so that you keep the higher tier through the period you have already paid for. We do not refund the difference for the current cycle.
- Cancellation. You can cancel a paid plan at any time from the billing portal. You keep access to your current paid tier through the end of the billing period you have already paid for; no further charges are made and the account reverts to the Free plan at period end. Cancellation does not erase any unused pack credits. Those remain spendable until their expiration date.
- Refunds. We do not refund partial months, unused monthly credits, or unused pack credits. We will correct billing errors and duplicate charges on request. Email support@joinvetaid.com with the invoice id and we will make it right.
- Taxes. Prices shown on the Upgrade page are exclusive of any applicable taxes. Where required by law, Stripe calculates and collects applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST.
- Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price increase or material plan change. You can cancel before the change takes effect to avoid it.
- Disputed charges. If a charge looks wrong to you, contact us at support@joinvetaid.com before initiating a chargeback with your card issuer. Chargebacks filed without prior contact may result in account suspension until the dispute is resolved.
Termination
You may close your account at any time from your profile or by emailing support@joinvetaid.com. From your profile you can also delete individual conversations, clear all of your activity, and choose an auto-delete window for your searches and chats; see the Privacy Policy for how long we keep data. When you close your account, your community posts and comments that have no replies are removed and those that have replies are replaced with a "[deleted]" placeholder; an encrypted direct-message thread becomes read-only to the other member and is fully purged once both members have deleted their accounts. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that pose a risk to other users or to the integrity of the Service.
Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here and, where appropriate, communicated to you by email. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. See the changelog at the bottom of this page for prior versions.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to the arbitration agreement above, any action permitted in court will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wilmington, Delaware, except where prohibited by applicable law.
General
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is unenforceable, the remainder of the Terms remains in force.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and VETAID LLC regarding the Service and supersede prior agreements on the same subject.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control (acts of God, war, civil unrest, internet outages, government action).
- Paid plans and credits. Pricing, monthly credits, credit packs, upgrades, downgrades, cancellation, and refunds are governed by the Billing, credits, and subscriptions section above.
Recruiter and impersonation scams
VETAID will never ask you to pay a fee to access benefits, send a paid job offer through DM, or impersonate VA staff or military leadership. If someone claims to be from VETAID and asks for money, login credentials, or your DD214, it is not us. Report it to support@joinvetaid.com.
